For your protection, the hospital conducts fire and other types of drills regularly. If a drill occurs while you are here, please do not become alarmed. The hospital is a fire-resistant building, and the staff is trained in fire protection and other emergency situations.
The most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of infection is hand hygiene (handwashing or using alcohol hand gel). Frequently performing hand hygiene will eliminate germs that you have picked up from other people, contaminated surfaces, or from animals.
Special regulations are in effect when people are receiving oxygen. Electrically operated equipment and aerosol products are not permitted in these areas.
For added protection, MDH has a pediatric security system. All patients under the age of 15 wear a security band on their wrist that sounds an alarm if they are too close to an exit door or if the bracelet comes off.
To best serve our patients and staff, McDonough District Hospital contracts with Public Safety Officers who patrol the hospital buildings and grounds. The main entrance to MDH is locked at 9 p.m. to ensure safety. Visitors may exit through the Emergency Services Department after 9 p.m. The main entrance is unlocked at 6 a.m. for your convenience.
