Cardiology Services in Macomb, IL

Comprehensive Heart Health Doctors to Meet Your Medical Needs

At McDonough District Hospital, our team from Blessing Health System of specialists in the Cardiology Department play a vital role in the health of our community by helping people suffering from heart conditions and diseases. Cardiology is a branch of medicine focusing on heart health, including the veins, arteries, and other blood vessels that transport blood to and from the heart.

Heart health is extremely important, especially because heart disease is the number one cause of death in both men and women worldwide. Not only that, but heart disease is also called a silent killer because many people don’t recognize or have no symptoms of heart disease until they suffer a cardiac event such as a heart attack or stroke. Although the idea of suffering a heart attack or stroke is frightening, there are effective treatments to help prevent these events and effective treatments to overcome them. Treatments may include medications and lifestyle changes, such as eating a healthier diet and getting appropriate exercise for your current fitness level and age range.

Patients can save time and pre-register for their outpatient procedures by calling (309) 836-1753 between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

CT Heart Scans Available

Patients can schedule a CT heart scan through the Radiology Department at a reduced cost of $99. This is a self-pay test and must be paid for in advance or at the time of the appointment.

MDH first offered this CT heart scan to area first responders, and will now make this procedure available to the general public.

According to the American Heart Association, almost half of all heart-related deaths occur in people with no previous history of heart disease symptoms. This simple CT heart scan serves as a coronary calcium scoring screening that may help identify individuals who may need treatment. A calcium-score screening test uses computerized tomography (CT) to detect calcium deposits in the coronary arteries.

“Heart disease continues to rank among one of the most common health issues we face, and there are steps you can take to help prevent this,” said Director of Radiology Milton Griffin, RT (R), BS, MA. “If you have a family history of heart disease, you may benefit from the CT heart scan. We are proud to offer this procedure now to all our patients, and at a special reduced cost.”

Test results are read by the Radiologist, and patients have the option of following up with their primary care provider or Blessing Health System Cardiology.

Patients wanting to schedule an appointment can call (309) 836-1550. Appointment times are available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. or after regular hours by special request.

Diagnostic & Therapeutic Services

Our team skillfully diagnoses and treats heart conditions using:

  • Electrocardiograms (ECG, EKG): This diagnostic test painlessly records the electrical signals of the heart to quickly detect rhythm abnormalities.
  • Echocardiogram: A painless diagnostic ultrasounds of the walls, valves, and structures of the heart.
  • Vascular studies: A comfortable diagnostic ultrasound that can detect disorders of the veins and arteries outside the heart.
  • Cardiac stress tests: This diagnostic assessment checks for possible heart circulation blockages and assesses the patient’s prognosis and effects of therapeutic measures.
  • Acute cardiac event treatment: Evaluation of cardiac status, acute peripheral vascular events, evaluation of chronic peripheral vascular insuffiency, and more.
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring: By wearing the blood pressure monitoring cuff on your upper arm that is connected to a monitor, your blood pressure will be read 3 times per hour while awake and 1 time per hour as you sleep
  • 24- and 48-hour Holter monitoring: This diagnoses heart electrical system rhythm disturbances, and the findings may indicate the patient needs a Pacemaker surgically installed.
