MACOMB, Ill. – The McDonough District Hospital Board of Directors voted during Monday’s (May 20) meeting to remove the interim title and name Bill Murdock as President & Chief Executive Officer. The Board’s vote was unanimous and his appointment is effective immediately.

Murdock has been serving in an interim capacity since December 28, 2023.

“I want to thank my colleagues on the Board of Directors and the Administrative Committee for all of the hard work they put in during this process. I also want to thank those who shared their opinions via our survey, your input was greatly appreciated,” said Jere Greuel, Chairman of the MDH Board of Directors. “A great deal of work took place to get us to where we are at right now. The feedback we’ve received on Bill (Murdock) serving as interim President & Chief Executive Officer was very positive. We face many challenges in healthcare, and our Board is confident in Bill’s ability to lead our hospital into the future.”

An Administrative Committee, comprised of three Board members and President of the MDH Medical Group, made a final recommendation following their meeting last Thursday to forego a search and name Murdock to the role on a permanent basis. The committee met with MDH staff members, hospital administration, non-MDH employed medical staff members with hospital privileges, and received feedback from community members before making their final recommendation.

“I was honored to have served as interim President & Chief Executive Officer that started nearly five months ago as the MDH Board of Directors began the process of permanently filling the position. I was humbled by the outpouring of support and encouragement from our MDH colleagues along with community and family members to consider pursuing the CEO role permanently,” said Murdock. “The MDH Administrative Committee was tasked to find the next CEO. I was impressed how this committee approached an important assignment and included all MDH colleagues in the decision making process. I am energized and thrilled to be selected as MDH’s next President & CEO and look forward to working with an amazing staff, Board members, and community leaders as MDH continues to raise the organization in uncharted healthcare challenges.”

Murdock first joined MDH in April 2019 as the Vice President/Chief Financial Officer. When he joined the hospital he brought more than 30 years of executive leadership in healthcare to the organization, along with that ties to Macomb and McDonough County.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from Western Illinois University in 1993, then a MBA from the Keller School of Management in 2016. Murdock became LEAN Bronze certified in 2015.

Bill and his wife Angie, a native of Macomb and also a graduate of WIU, are the parents of four children, two of whom are WIU graduates.
