MACOMB, Ill. – Following a visit by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the McDonough District Hospital Laboratory earned another accreditation based on the biannual on-site inspection.
The on-site inspection team included practicing pathology and laboratory medicine professionals. Following the inspection, MDH’s laboratory recorded one of its best-ever showings.
“The CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program is widely recognized as the gold standard in lab accreditation,” said Jennifer Jones, MD, Chief of Pathology. “I’m proud of the teamwork shown by the lab to achieve this accreditation, even while dealing with the challenges of COVID-19.”
The United States Federal Government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which started in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
MDH is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
“The MDH Laboratory demonstrates leadership, innovation, and a passionate commitment to standards of excellence while providing the highest quality services, ultimately for patients,” said Richard M. Scanlan, MD, FCAP, chair of the CAP’s Council on Accreditation. “The CAP congratulates MDH Laboratory on its recent CAP Accreditation.”
