Dr. Jennifer Jones Appointed as Chief of Pathology

MACOMB, Ill. – McDonough District Hospital announced the appointment of Jennifer Jones, M.D. as Department Chairperson and Medical Director of the Pathology Department. The appointment was approved by the Medical Executive Committee on Monday (Oct. 12).

“All of us at McDonough District Hospital are delighted with the appointment of Dr. Jones. She has provided excellent, high-quality support to our Laboratory, Medical Staff and patients and is committed to providing many more years of continued leadership for our Pathology Department,” said MDH President/CEO Brian E. Dietz, FACHE. “With this transition, Dr. Jones will also be responsible for overseeing the part-time Pathology support MDH will be receiving from five Board Certified Pathologists representing the West Central Pathology Specialists group from Quincy, Illinois. This group has covered the Blessing Health System for many years and will be supporting Dr. Jones. This new construct will provide MDH with the highest level of Pathology expertise and support available while creating a staffing level commensurate with the needs of the organization and patients.” 

A Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Dr. Jones joined MDH in September 2014.

Prior to joining MDH, she spent nine years at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital as a staff Pathologist and Director of Cytopathology. 

Dr. Jones completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Western Illinois University before receiving her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. She worked at Ball Memorial Hospital during her residency and completed a fellowship at the Indiana University Medical Center.

ABOUT THE MDH LABORATORY: Located on the first floor of MDH, the Laboratory uses state-of-the-art technology to provide clinical laboratory and surgical pathology procedures that aid in diagnosis and treatment. The MDH Laboratory is accredited by the Commission of Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory’s patients. The MDH Laboratory is one of more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
