MDH Re-Designated as Level II Perinatal Care Facility

MACOMB, Ill. – McDonough District Hospital has earned re-designation by the North Central Illinois Perinatal Network as a Level II Perinatal Care Facility.
One of 95 hospitals in the state to be designated as a Level II or higher, MDH joined the network of regionalized perinatal care to ensure that mothers and infants are delivered in hospitals equipped to care for their specific medical needs.
Level II capabilities include:
- Care of uncomplicated pregnancies with the ability to detect, stabilize, and initiate management of unanticipated maternal-fetal or neonatal problems until transport
- Every birth attended by at least two professionals
- Primary maternal care providers (including certified nurse midwives, etc.), pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and other advanced practice registered nurses on staff
- Ability to begin emergency cesarean delivery
- Access to obstetric ultrasound, laboratory testing, and blood bank at all times
- Nursing leadership has expertise in perinatal nursing care
- Obstetric provider with privileges to perform emergency cesarean available to attend all deliveries
- Anesthesia services available for labor and surgery and board-certified anesthesiologist with special training or experience in obstetric anesthesia available for consultation
- CT scan and MRI with interpretation available
- OB-GYN available at all times, director of OB services is board-certified OB-GYN
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) available for consultation
- Anesthesia services available at all times for labor and surgery
- Medical and surgical consultants available to stabilize obstetric patients
- Full complement of subspecialists available for inpatient consultations
- Provide neonatal resuscitation at every delivery
- Evaluate and provide postnatal care to stable term newborn infants
- Provide care for infants born ≥32 week gestation and weighing ≥1500 g who have physiologic immaturity or who are moderately ill with problems that are expected to resolve rapidly and are not anticipated to need subspecialty services on an urgent basis
- Provide care for infants convalescing after intensive care
- Provide mechanical ventilation for brief duration or continuous positive airway pressure or both
- Readiness at all times to meet unexpected needs and facilitate transport to acute care setting when necessary and an established agreement with a receiving hospital for timely transport
- Stabilize infants born before 32 week gestation and weighing less than 1500 grams until transfer to a neonatal intensive care facility
The Obstetrics Department at MDH boasts personalized care and attention from highly trained, experienced staff in a warm, home-like setting. The new Obstetrics area located on second floor now offers private rooms for families.
