McDonough District Hospital offers a Mammography Assistance Program (MAP) for anyone seeking financial assistance for breast cancer screening. If eligible, financial assistance will be granted for 100% of the cost of the mammography exam at MDH.
Working cooperatively with the McDonough County Health Department (MCHD), MDH has structured MAP to compliment, but not duplicate, the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) and Susan G. Komen funding, which are both administered through the local health department.
The MDH Mammography Assistance Program has been designed to assist patients of any age. MAP provides funding for additional diagnostic testing such as ultrasound, sonogram, and/or unilateral mammogram if ordered by a physician. Eligibility for the program is based on family size and income. MDH Patient Financial Services determines eligibility.
MAP funds are a valuable resource for patients not covered by the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program. The Mammography Assistance Program is made possible by generous community donations, which were designated for funding breast cancer screenings at MDH.
One in eight women in their lifetime are affected by breast cancer. Detecting cancer at an earlier stage will influence a woman’s chance of survival and mammograms play a significant role in the early detection of breast cancer because they can detect changes in the breast that may be early signs of cancer, but are too small or subtle to be felt.
Annual mammogram screenings provide early detection of cancer, which can save a life. A lack of financial resource should not prevent anyone from receiving this life-saving exam.
For more information or to apply for MAP, contact MDH Patient Financial Services at (309) 836-1528.
