MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center will open Monday, Feb. 20 on the McDonough District Hospital campus.
The former MDH Orthopedic Building, 503 E. Grant St., Macomb will house the practice of Dr. Ronald D. Wheeler, orthopedic surgeon. In addition to his office hours in Macomb, Wheeler will also provide Tuesday hours at the Carthage Memorial Hospital facility located at 402 E. Adams St.
Wheeler has been practicing in Quincy, Illinois prior to joining the MDH medical staff. He came to western Illinois in 2005 after practicing medicine in Idaho.
“We are expanding our medical staff capabilities to meet the needs for patients requiring orthopedic services in the community,” said MDH President/CEO Kenny Boyd. “The community has been extremely fortunate to have the services of Dr. Drake White but one orthopedic surgeon cannot meet all community patient needs.”
Since 2003 when Dr. Robert Randolph retired, the MDH service area has been served by Dr. White and temporary orthopedic physicians. With the addition of Dr. Wheeler, there will be greater coverage for the orthopedic needs of the community. MDH is actively recruiting an additional orthopedist and other physician specialties to join the medical staff, according to Boyd.
Office hours for the Western Illinois Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; telephone 309-833-5917.
A community Open House will be held to welcome Dr. Wheeler from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 in Auditoriums A and B at McDonough District Hospital. The public is invited to meet Wheeler and his wife Rebecca.
