Auxiliary to MDH
Who is the Auxiliary?
The voluntary support system to MDH. You are invited to join the Auxiliary. The Auxiliary welcomes all members! Whatever amount of time or talents you can give will be greatly appreciated.
What does the Auxiliary do?
The Auxiliary raises funds for the hospital. They do that by organizing and having raffles, book sales, bake sales, scrub sales, and the MDH Gift Gallery. The Auxiliary also offers the Memorial Angel Tree each year during the holidays. Since 1990 the Auxiliary has raised over one half million dollars in support of MDH.
Currently, all funds raised by the Auxilary are designated for Health Career Loans and Scholarships which are given annually to qualified applicants. Applications may be picked up in the Volunteer Services Office, located on the lower level of the hospital.
When did the Auxiliary begin?
The Auxiliary to MDH was incorporated on December 13, 1957, one year before the hospital opened. The charter members were all women who helped make beds, gave tours, and did whatever was needed for the opening of the hospital. Gradually this organization broadened its mission and voted to admit men into the organization. Since the Auxiliary began it has had 23 presidents.
Who is the current President of the Auxiliary?
William Thompson was elected president of the Auxiliary in February 2007. Prior to this he served as first vice president for three years. Thompson was re-elected in February 2009 and will serve as president until February 2011.
Thompson moved to Macomb in 2001 and serves on the faculty at Western Illinois University. He became a hospital volunteer and joined the Auxiliary in the summer of 2002.
