Randy John Valet Parking Attendant Valet Parking Services
Congratulations to Randy John, Valet Parking Attendant in Valet Parking Services, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for July 2009. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Randy began his employment on September 13, 2007, as the first Valet Parking Attendant in the history of Valet Parking Services at MDH. Randy is very dedicated to this service and tries to enhance this service by offering suggestions to improve the processes or develop them in a manner that is beneficial for the hospital and the customers that use it.
Randy’s domain is the front lobby. He treats every individual that walks into the front door as if he had personally invited them to come and visit. Randy also lends a helpful hand to the volunteers in the Gift Shop, at the Reception Desk, and in the Surgical Waiting Room and to other employees throughout the hospital. Randy strives for excellence in all aspects of his job.
Randy is a wonderful person. He continually displays a friendly, welcoming attitude. He approaches everyone appropriately to offer his assistance. He has developed the role of Valet Parking Attendant into one of the best customer service ideas ever implemented. Randy is an example of what customer service is, what having a great attitude about your job is, and how employees should treat each other. Randy is a person that our patients look forward to seeing when they are at the hospital.
Randy is excellent in his position. He has strong communication skills; is outgoing; and engages our patients and visitors in kind, caring, and comforting conversation while assisting them into the hospital and to their destination. He goes the extra mile to put people at ease who might be scared about coming to the hospital.
His nominators state that Randy is “a dedicated employee” and “friendly and compassionate.” Others say that Randy is a definite asset to MDH and perfect for the job he does. Numerous times a day, it would be typical to overhear patients and families complimenting him on his willingness to help out: “He always has a smile on his face whether it’s 100 degrees outside or 10 degrees below zero.”
Randy and his wife, Brenda, have three children and three grandchildren. In his spare time, Randy enjoys riding his motorcycle and watching the Minnesota Vikings play football. One of Randy’s favorite pastimes is walking his dog, Windsor. He loves spending time with his family.
