   Kathy Wyatt
   Director
   Day Health Services

Congratulations Kathy Wyatt, Director of Day Health Services, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for January 2010. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."

Kathy joined the Day Health staff as a Recreational Therapist on February 2, 1987. On August 30, 1987, Kathy became the supervisor for the department. Kathy began her current role as Director of Day Health Services on July 10, 1990.

Kathy has diligently dedicated her career to her passion of assisting the elderly to maintain a healthy, active life to the fullest extent possible. Kathy serves not only as the department director, but informally as an advocate, active listener, friend, tour guide, and sometimes guest “chef” for the group. Kathy keeps everyone engaged in activities and lifts theirs spirits by her zest for life. Kathy strives to provide a stimulating environment and positive experience for the participants.

It is quite typical to meet Kathy driving the Day Health van and heading into the country to pick up participants for the day. Participants look forward to her pulling in their driveway and cheerfully visiting with them as they begin their day. She participates fully in all aspects of the program and always looks out for those that may be struggling with life or health issues. Her energy and enthusiasm are vital for the success of Day Health Services.

Kathy coordinates the MDH home emergency response program and has successfully transitioned our home emergency response system (HERS) subscribers to a new HERS vendor that will better meet the needs of those in our community. Kathy is also very active in the state Adult Day Health Association and works closely with the Illinois Department on Aging.

Kathy and her husband, Jim, enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Kathy enjoys knitting and cooking. She is a collector of coins and Waterford crystal. She volunteers in many capacities including Habitat for Humanity, Altrusa, Lions Club, and her church.
