Located on the first floor of MDH.
The Emergency Services Department at McDonough District Hospital is prepared to respond to all types of medical emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Comprised of the Emergency Room and hospital-based ambulance service, the department fulfills the primary role of treating life and limb-threatening conditions. The department also serves a secondary role of providing evaluation and treatment of non-emergent conditions for patients who need or desire immediate physician attention.
The Emergency Services Department at MDH consists of receptionists, nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and physicians all trained in the process of providing emergency care. With our hospital-based advanced life-support ambulance service, care is coordinated by our Emergency Room physicians from the moment an ambulance arrives at a scene.
To provide optimal efficiency and effectiveness during emergency treatment, our Radiology, Laboratory, and Cardiopulmonary Departments provide 24-hour diagnostic and therapeutic services. In addition, bereavement and social services support is readily available during crisis situations through the use of our Advocacy Services Department.
These are the members who work together to ensure that emergency treatment, psychological support, and practical advice is readily available to the 13,000 patients seen in our Emergency Room and the 2,700 patients served by our ambulance service, annually.
Our Emergency Services team at McDonough District Hospital would not be complete without the integrated network of police, fire, and rescue agencies that work together with MDH to serve the emergency medical needs of the region. These agencies work closely with McDonough District to ensure emergencies are handled in timely and effective fashion. Many of these agencies are comprised of volunteers who give their time to acquire the skills so vital to the success of any Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System.
In addition, McDonough District Hospital’s Emergency Services Department maintains a close working relationship with 3 helicopter flight services and the regional trauma center in Peoria, Illinois to ensure further care is available when needed.
These agencies, combined with a state-of-the-art 9-1-1 system, complete one of the best integrated emergency response systems in the state. The Emergency Services team at McDonough District Hospital is proud to be a part of this network and will continue to strive to serve the medical needs of west-central Illinois.
