Congratulations to Matt Thompson, MT(ASCP) in the Laboratory, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for August 2010. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."

Matt began employment on May 24, 2007 as a Phlebotomist in the Laboratory after graduating from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.  In August 2008, Matt decided to further his education, skills, and expertise by enrolling in the Medical Technologist program at Saint Francis Medical Center School of Clinical Laboratory Science in Peoria, Illinois. Upon successful completion of this program, Matt returned to MDH on July 7, 2009 in his advanced role as a MT(ASCP).

Matt is very serious about his career in Lab and his dedication is visible in the work he performs. He has excellent job knowledge and is a great team player. Matt possesses strong customer service skills. He always welcomes his patients with a friendly smile and makes all patients feel special. He is very considerate and strives to make each person feel very comfortable. Matt performs his job well and always with a smile.

One nominator states “Matt is always very willing to go above and beyond his responsibilities in his job….He is very dependable and trustworthy. He is a breath of fresh air.” Another nominator states he is always willing to be of assistance and he is “all you expect and more”.  Another nominator describes Matt as a dream employee. He is unfailingly considerate of both patients and co-workers. He is always willing to help, and Matt’s job performance is of the highest quality.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys basketball, exercising, and gardening. He also has pet goats named Whitey and Blackey.
