Hospital Accreditations

Various accrediting agencies exist to ensure the quality of providers for you, our customer. The following accreditations are an achievement for MDH and acknowledge that we are following the best recommended practices in the healthcare industry. Accreditation is voluntarily sought and means that the hospital has met standards for health and safety.

• McDonough District Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and has earned the Gold Seal of Approval.  
  
  
  
• MDH has been designated as a “Memory and Aging Network” site for the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
  
   
• The Cancer Program at MDH has been granted Approval with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons since 1983.
  
   
• Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
  
  
  
• The Cardiopulmonary Department boasts an accredited vascular lab by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
  
  The Cardiopulmonary Department is also an accredited echocardiography lab by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
  
  They are one of the first 1,000 labs accredited in the United States.
  
   
• The MDH Diabetes Education Center is a recognized program by the American Diabetes Association.
  
   
• The Emergency Services Department is designated as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program.
  
  
  
• Home Health and Hospice are Medicare-Certified, Licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health, and Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. 
  
   
• The Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists.
  
  
  
• The Obstetrics Department is a Level II Perinatal Center.
  
   
• The Radiology Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology for Mammography.
  
  
  
• The School of Radiography is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
